Danish Soccer Federation Announces Procedure

Eriksen to Receive Implantable Device After Euro 2020 Collapse

Danish Soccer Federation Announces Procedure

Copenhagen, Denmark

Christian Eriksen will be fitted with an implantable device to monitor his heart rhythm after his collapse on the pitch during Denmark's opening Euro 2020 match. The Danish Football Federation (DBU) announced the decision on June 15th, following extensive medical evaluations after the incident.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during the match against Finland, and only prompt medical intervention and CPR efforts prevented a tragedy. Since his collapse, the Danish midfielder has undergone a series of tests and consultations with specialists to determine the cause of the medical emergency.

The implantable device, known as an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), will be inserted under the skin and continuously monitor Eriksen's heart rhythm. If it detects an irregular or potentially dangerous heart rhythm, the device will deliver an electric shock to correct the rhythm.

Eriksen's recovery and future as a professional soccer player are still uncertain. The DBU stated that the device will not prevent Eriksen from continuing his career, but it will closely monitor his condition and make further decisions based on his progress.
